Take the train …….

Posted in Uncategorized on March 2nd, 2008 by Michal Bielicki

I like trains. Being a really frequent flyer, the beauty of just entering the station, buying a ticket, boarding the train and not having to pass 10 milion secdurity checks rocks. Besides of course the luxury of not having to leave the city centre to get to a freakin airport somewhere I never dreamt of having to visit.
So, trains rock. And german and swiss ones top that. The trains are nice and clean, superfast, and the ICE even provides WLAN on some routes.

Another interesting part of traveling by train is how well you can observe change in the society in trains. When I first travelled to Poland by train after the fall of the brotherly empire, trains were those stinking things, pretty dirty, drowning in the smell of beer, cheap nasty cigarettes and very strange cleaning atuff.
Today a trainride from Berlin to Warsaw with the EuroCity is a pleasure, except for the notorious lack of powersocket to power your notwbook while browsing via polands nice 3G network. OK, the train is not as good as the german ones yet, the 3G stuff not available on the whole ride yet, but in total its industrial world luxury, for sure way ahead of what the UK tries to call a Train system ;)

So, last but not least, one tip for trainrides in Poland. Go to the restaurant car. I like the breakfasts a lot, the schabowy is very good and the service that used to scare one, has become european class as well.

Happy riding :)
