Where things happen to get invented ..
Posted in Fairs, Conferences & Summits, OpenSource, VoIP on May 31st, 2005 by Michal BielickiI was allways wondering how things like new projects happen to start. Now that I run one myself I can tell the story.
Sometime during september 2004 florian, andy and me had the idea that it would be cool to create a softswitch that actually runs stable. We talked a lot and till January 2005 had talked so much that nothing actually happened
In January we finally met up at the GUUG Telephony Summit and had some crazily funny coincidences happening. Peter Nixon joined and brought with him the two Mr. VoIP’s, Craig Southeren and Derek Smithies with whom we basically suddenly started doing things. In days the aefirion site went up and a first version was made … and some small successes we achieved, like the introduction of woomera into the softpbx world as well as some of the new jitter buffer technologies developed by speakup within the project seem to prove that it’s worth proceeding. Although currently we are moving to a completely different vision of a softswitch, which means all that was done till now will basically go to the legacy department, the project was a very educating and developing exercise in social and technical project management and engineering. I enjoy every second of it ![]()
